Bebras India Challenge @Adpodara School in Rural Gujarat

Dhavalsinh Zala was the First runner up in India with 12 students with Second runner up in India ranks from Adpodra School, Himmatnagar. A proud moment for Babubhai Pranami, teacher, who had encouraged 31 students of Class 8 to participate in 2018 Bebras Challenge.

2018 Bebras India Challenge was participation from 400 students from 9 schools across 5 talukas of Gujarat. These are all Government schools with no dedicated computer teachers or computer teachers and the medium of instruction is Gujarati. These schools have limited access to infrastructure with 1-2 laptops in each school. All subject teachers registered the interested students for the challenge and conducted it overcoming the constraints of time and infrastructure with excitement amongst the students and encouraging feedback.

The Bebras Challenge results surprised the school with Dhavalsinh  as winner. His teachers shared that Dhaval is an errant child and a slow learner. Dhaval had also not fared well in Mission Vidya. Mission Vidya  is an annual test conducted by the Government of Gujarat to assess the levels of the students in Maths and Language. All the school teachers believed that the students who had done well in Mission Vidya would be the Bebras  winners. Dhaval who was otherwise reprimanded for not completing his work was applauded. The encouragement from the teachers helped Dhaval put in effort in his regular school work. Babubhai shared that Dhaval has shown an improvement in his academic scores in the final exams conducted in April 2019.

The Bebras Challenge gave Dhavalsinh an opportunity to exhibit his problem solving skills and become a winner!
