Teachers Speak: 2018 Bebras India Challenge

Bebras (www.bebras.org) is an international student Computational Thinking Challenge organised in over 60 countries and designed to get students all over the world excited about computing. Bebras India is brought to you by ACM India’s CSpathshala (www.cspathshala.org) initiative.

2018 Bebras India Challenge was held  from 19th – 30th November for age groups 8-18 in English, Gujarati, Marathi and Telugu, with an overwhelming response of 137,081 students, with 52,000 boys and 81,000 girls from 380+ schools across 12 states in India. Its free.  We encourage participation  of as many students as possible and also recognise top performing students with Certificates of Participation, Best in school, Top ranks in the state and Top ranks in the country.

.Bebras Challenge had five Groups: Aryabhatta, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara, Mahavira and Ramanjum. Bebras tasks are designed for the appropriate age groups, a mix of easy, medium and difficult level of questions which the students could solve without any prior knowledge of Computational Thinking in a duration of 45 minutes.

What was interesting was the pouring in of encouraging feedback from the students across the country – private schools in metros to the rural government schools from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Innumerable requests to register more students until the last day of the Challenge!

Each one of them have shown a lot of interest to solve the puzzles and I really saw them trying…Well Bebras was the talk of school last week.”

We encourage more schools to participate next year. Give the challenge to all/as many as possible not just to a selected few. Bebras challenge is a great way to learn about computational thinking and problem solving skills!
