As we participate in the digital revolution, we need to train our children on skills for the digital age. Computational thinking (CT) has been recognized as one of the key 21st century skills and involves understanding a problem, designing a solution and expressing it in a form that a human or a machine can execute. CT has been introduced into the mainstream curricula in many countries and India has joined them with the National Education Policy 2020 which recommends that computational thinking be taught from foundational stages.
CSpathshala is an Association for Computing Machinery India (ACM India) initiative to bring a modern computing curriculum to Indian schools. CSpathshala community has created teaching aids in the form of slides, lesson plans and student worksheets. These are provided to the teachers at no cost.
CT curriculum has been piloted by 4,00,000+ students in 1200 schools across 11 states in 4 languages and Tamil Nadu SCERT has adopted the unplugged computational thinking curriculum as part of its mathematics curriculum for 30,000 schools from 2018.
CSpathshala is organizing an online training program for computer and math teachers on 30th July 2022 from 3pm to 5.30pm to motivate schools to teach computing as a science through enhanced understanding on why CS should be taught in schools and how is CS different from ICT. The training program will provide an opportunity for teachers to engage in interesting activities requiring problem solving and computational thinking skills.
