CSpathshala, in partnership with School of Computer Studies, Ahmedabad University and ACM India Ahmedabad Chapter, is organizing a workshop for school principals and computing teachers on “Bringing Computational Thinking to Schools”.

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) India has started an education initiative (CSpathshala) to promote the teaching of computer science in schools. Computing plays a bigger role in the lives of young people today than ever before. Yet, there is a widespread lack of knowledge of what constitutes the core of computing: is it just the use of word processors and spreadsheets or are there more fundamental principles that underlie this science. Can we show young people how a computational model can be used to solve a variety of problems, from basic problems in mathematics to answering questions in biology?

CSpathshala, is organizing a workshop on 22nd October, 2016 from 9:30am to 3:00 pm, at School of Computer Studies, Ahmedabad University. Professor Madhavan Mukund, President ACM India and Dean of Studies, Chennai Mathematical Institute, will deliver the keynote address.

The CSpathshala initiative will be rolling out a teachers training program so as to teach computing as a science in grades 1-8 from 2017-2018. CSpathshala is carrying out a pilot project for 15 schools in Pune for academic year 2016-2017.
